A New AR Step in Digital Education: Presenting the AR-based e-book “Communication and Digital Media”!

Imagine a textbook where a page is not just a page, but a portal. You open your smartphone, point the camera and the text comes alive: videos explain the theory, activities appear in a new format, and learning transforms into an immersive experience.

This is exactly the kind of educational product created by the development team of the course “Communication and Digital Media” within the DigiFLEd project. The result of their work is the AR-based e-book “Communication and Digital Media” – an innovative resource that integrates instructional content with augmented reality technology.

Thanks to the ARTutor platform, learners can:
• interact with audio and video directly from the book’s pages,
• complete interactive tasks in AR format,
• learn through immersion rather than simple reading.

The content of the e-book covers key topics of modern media education: from communication theories to podcasting, media literacy, video creation, UGC, and digital ethics. For example, Module 1 offers an overview of both classical and contemporary communication theories, including the Shannon-Weaver model and media literacy in the digital age.

The AR e-book is:
✔️ a new level of accessibility and learner engagement,
✔️ a bridge between theory and practice,
✔️ a platform that develops digital and media competencies essential for today’s students.

Every task becomes a small adventure.

The DigiFLEd team continues to modernise academic courses and integrate digital innovations into foreign language teaching in Ukrainian universities. The AR-based e-book “Communication and Digital Media” is just one example of how modern technologies open new opportunities for education.
