Digital Toolkit for Language and Literature Teachers: Resources and Strategies (19 June 2025)

Inspiration, fresh ideas, new tools, and vibrant interaction  that’s exactly how we would describe our recent webinar “Digital Toolkit for Language and Literature Teachers: Resources and Strategies”!
On June 19, the German Philology Department of Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding hosted this event as part of the international Erasmus+ CBHE DigiFLEd project – “DigiFLEd: Modernisation of University Education Programmes in Foreign Languages by Integrating Information Technologies.”
 We were truly delighted to welcome over 100 participants – teachers, educators, students, and academic professionals from across Ukraine and beyond! Together, we took another step toward building an accessible and innovative digital learning environment – one that transforms not only the process of teaching but the very philosophy of education.
The goal of the webinar was to equip participants with practical tools for creating interactive, efficient, and learner-centered educational spaces in blended and online formats. We aimed to show how digital tools can not only support but also enrich the teaching of language and literature disciplines. We also wanted to emphasize that blended and online learning can be just as emotional, engaging, and effective as traditional in-class instruction.
The event was opened by:
Prof. H.V. Pavlov, Vice-Rector for Research at NUOS, who highlighted the vital role of digital transformation in university education
T.P. Myronenko, Head of the Department of German Philology, and the driving force behind many international and national educational initiatives
Our speakers formed a dynamic team with real experience and a clear vision for educational transformation:
Lidiia Aizikova – Lecturer at the the Germanic Philology Department and Deputy Head for International Cooperation.
She introduced the platforms Curipod and Flippity – powerful tools for creating engaging, interactive lessons. Her presentation focused on how such tools enhance student motivation and involvement, making learning more visual, accessible, and dynamic.
Anastasiia Cherevko – Master’s student at the Germanic Philology Department and an active participant of the DigiFLEd project.
She shared her personal experience using digital tools from a student’s perspective, presenting:
▪️ Educaplay – for creating interactive vocabulary and grammar exercises
▪️ Edcafe AI Chatbot – a cutting-edge tool based on artificial intelligence
▪️ Gimkit – a gamified platform for revision and knowledge assessment
Anastasiia demonstrated how these resources support learner autonomy, critical thinking, and digital literacy – key competencies for modern education.
Liubov Mykhailova – Methodologist of the Germanic Philology Department and administrator of the DigiFLEd Virtual Digital Hub at NUOS.
She spoke about the creation, structure, and functionality of the hub, its role as a coordination center for the digital transformation of language education at the university, and the opportunities it provides for faculty, staff, and students through curated digital resources and support.
We sincerely thank every participant for your active involvement, thoughtful questions, and genuine interest.
Your engagement with the topic of digital teaching tools proves that educational change is already underway – and you are helping lead it.
Another key goal of the webinar was to raise awareness about the Erasmus+ CBHE DigiFLEd project – so that more educators could learn about its mission, resources, and opportunities.
Special thanks to our Erasmus+ CBHE DigiFLEd project partners for their support, trust, and high standards of cooperation, which continue to inspire and enable us to implement cutting-edge practices in Ukrainian higher education.
We express our sincere gratitude to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Philology and especially to Dean Olena Hohorenko for the comprehensive informational and technical support that made the high-quality delivery of the webinar possible.

Digital Tools: New Horizons for Effective Teaching (29 September 2025)

On 29 September 2025 the webinar “Digital Tools: New Horizons for Effective Teaching” was organised by Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. The event brought together over 260 participants from all regions of Ukraine and became a significant driver for change in teaching practice!

Speaker Svitlana Riabovol demonstrated how modern technologies can transform a traditional class into a dynamic, interactive learning space where students are not passive listeners but active creators of their own learning process.

Participants had the opportunity to explore the potential of platforms such as Sandbox Padlet, Wayground, Flinga Wall, and Voki, which enable educators to:

  • instantly collect ideas and conduct brainstorming sessions;
  • create visually engaging interactive boards;
  • facilitate synchronous and asynchronous student collaboration;
  • personalise learning materials and design educational quests;
  • integrate animated avatars that voice tasks, explanations, and feedback, making learning even more interactive and engaging.

Key takeaway: Digital tools are a powerful resource for educators, enabling them to save time, unlock creativity, and deepen engagement with students.

We highly recommend this webinar to everyone ready to rethink the role of the educator in the digital ageand make their teaching trulyeffective and inspiring!

Innovative Methods of Applying Modern Automated Translation Technologies (30 October 2025)

On October 30, 2025, a successful informative and practical webinar was held at the Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, dedicated to the integration of automated translation technologies into the educational process and professional activities. The event was organized by the Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University team within the framework of the Erasmus+ DigiFLEd educational project.

The webinar aroused considerable interest in the professional community. 185 people participated – representatives of 22 higher education institutions and colleges from 12 regions of Ukraine.

The audience was as diverse as possible and interested in digital transformation: among those registered were teachers, students, librarians, tutors and other educational specialists.

Speakers – Olesya Boivan (Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Translation Theory and Practice) and Oksana Vorobyova (Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Translation Theory and Practice) – presented theoretical knowledge and practical experience on the effective use of CAT-tools:

  • The need to use modern computer-aided translation systems, such as Trados Studio, was demonstrated, which allow significantly reducing the time spent on translation and improving the quality of the final product by automating routine processes.
  • CAT-tools are considered as a means of increasing productivity and reducing cognitive load. It was emphasized that the key decision and quality assurance always remains with the specialist, emphasizing his leading role in the process.
  • Higher education students who are already mastering the TRANSLATION TECHNOLOGIES course prepared a practical block, demonstrating their skills in working with Trados Studio. This confirmed the relevance and necessity of such practically-oriented courses for training future specialists.

Computer-aided translation (CAT) systems are a powerful resource that allows the translator to save time, improve quality and optimize the cost of translation activities for the end user.

The team of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University expresses sincere gratitude to all participants for their active participation and interest in the development of digital translation competencies!

Benchmarking report

   Benchmarking Report has been prepared within the framework of the Erasmus+ DigiFLEd project, aimed at modernising university education programmes in foreign languages by integrating information technologies. The report analyses best practices observed during study visits to three European universities – Maynooth University (Ireland), the University of Western Macedonia (Greece), and Tampere University (Finland) – with the goal of enhancing foreign language education in Ukrainian partner institutions. By examining innovative uses of digital tools, the report offers valuable insights into creating more interactive, student-centred, and technology-enhanced learning environments.

   The study visits provided Ukrainian educators with exposure to ICT applications such as Moodle, AI tools, immersive multimedia, and translation technologies, enriching their pedagogical approaches. This introduction outlines the project’s objectives to bridge gaps between academic offerings and labour market demands, while fostering international cooperation and digital innovation. The benchmarking process also identified common challenges and opportunities for digital transformation in Ukraine’s higher education sector. Ultimately, this report serves as a guide for developing new DigiFLEd courses, updating curricula, and promoting sustainable digital practices in foreign language teaching.
