From 9 February to 12 June 2026, the Department of Germanic Philology of the Faculty of Philology at Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding successfully piloted the course “Writing for Research Publication Purposes”.
The course, worth 4 ECTS credits (120 hours), was designed to develop learners’ academic writing skills in English and enhance their ability to use modern digital tools for the preparation of research publications. The course content comprises three modules: “Principles and Requirements for Writing a Scientific Text Using Digital Tools”, “Academic Language and Writing Mechanics”, and “How to Proofread, Edit and Submit a Scientific Text Using Digital Software”.

The pilot course enrolled 30 students, including 2 PhD students, 11 Master’s students and 17 Bachelor’s students.
The participants completed interactive tasks aimed at developing their ability to plan, structure, write, and revise academic texts throughout the course. Particular emphasis was placed on preparing research articles for submission to international academic journals, adhering to the principles of academic integrity and responsible authorship, and familiarising participants with the ethical standards of academic publishing.
The course also provided participants with opportunities to master digital tools that support academic writing, self-editing, and manuscript preparation in accordance with the requirements of the contemporary academic environment.

Assessment of learning outcomes was based on a combination of formative and summative assessment methods integrated throughout all course modules. This approach facilitated continuous monitoring of learners’ progress and promoted the development of self-assessment skills.
According to the results of the pilot implementation, learners provided positive feedback regarding the course content, organisation, and practical orientation. They noted that the training had significantly improved their academic writing skills in English, helped them gain a better understanding of the structure of a research article, and enhanced their awareness of the requirements for preparing manuscripts for publication in academic journals.

Furthermore, participants of the e-course confirmed an increased level of proficiency in the use of digital tools that can be effectively applied at various stages of academic writing. The knowledge and practical skills acquired during the course will contribute to their future academic, research, and professional development.
The outcomes of the pilot implementation provide a solid foundation for the further integration of the course into educational programmes and for expanding the use of digital technologies in the teaching of academic writing.
